Tell Congress to Pass the Afghan Adjustment Act and Provide a Safe Existence to Afghan Evacuees

August 16, the first anniversary of the fall of Kabul, is next week. Earlier this week Congress finally introduced the Afghan Adjustment Act (AAA) SB 4787 and HB 6585.

Please consider taking the action we have been offering as part of our pressure campaign, as we join with allies through August 15 pressing for the AAA, during this first round of advocacy and #KeepThePromise.

  • The AAA helps protect individuals who fled Afghanistan after the U.S. departure.
  • Thousands of Afghan Allies must apply for asylum within the next three months due to their humanitarian parole (APA) status. The AAA includes those already here on humanitarian parole, those seeking Special Immigrant Visas or who have referrals for the Refugee Admissions program.
  • It also includes Afghans who assisted the U.S. mission and remain in peril in Afghanistan.
  • The AAA is not without precedent, the U.S. has done the same for others who were caught up in America’s withdrawal from Vietnam, U.S. military actions in Iraq, and other conflicts.

As a supporter of immigration justice, we know you care, here is how you can help:

  1. Take our action, share our action (https://bit.ly/UUSJ-AfghanAdjAct)
  2. Educate yourself further, see the list below
  3. Support refugees and asylum seekers as an individual or as part of a congregational group with UUSC
  4. Volunteer, see the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society list
  5. Donate to further our work or the resettlement efforts of others
