UUCP will be hosting a screening of the award winning film “RUMI: Poet of the Heart.” For over seven hundred years, Jalal ad-Din Rumi’s writings have enchanted, inspired, and enlightened Muslims, Jews, Christians, Hindus, and Buddhists. Rumi’s poetry celebrates the sacred in everyday existence and transcends boundaries of time, place, and religion to speak to all people. In the past two decades, there has been an astounding resurgence of interest in Rumi and his poetry. Today, he is one of the best-selling poets in the world.
“RUMI: Poet of the Heart,” is produced and directed by Haydn Reiss, featuring Coleman Barks, Robert Bly, storyteller and mythologist Michael Meade, religious historian Huston Smith, and Deepak Chopra. It is narrated by Debra Winger with musical performances by oud virtuoso Hamza El Din and musician Jai Uttal offering inspiring accompaniment to this beautifully produced film.
Stay after the film for a discussion and reading of a few of Rumi’s poems not read in the film. Refreshments will be served. Donations appreciated. We look forward to seeing you!
