Ava DuVernay’s documentary film is titled after the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution, adopted in 1865, which abolished slavery & involuntary servitude throughout the United States except as a punishment for crime. In this thought-provoking documentary scholars, activist, and politicians analyze the criminalization of African Americans and the US prison Boom.

For Rev. Sonia, this was one of the most educational and impactful documentaries she has seen.
