UUs Calling Congress – Let’s Heal Not Harm

Tuesday, July 19

12:00 Noon

RSVP for the UU Action Hour – July 19

Join in Community to Call Congress, Block the Extension of Title 42

You joined the UUSJ and UUSC letter to Biden on Title 42, calling for its end in March – thank you! Yet we need your help to call your federal legislators and thwart the extension of Title 42’s use!

  • Next week, on Tuesday, July 19th, we are joining our partners to call members of Congress and urge them to oppose any and all Title 42/anti-asylum amendments, and keep them from passing any piece of legislation or provisions through the appropriations process.
  • Unfortunately, too many legislators are accepting anti-immigrant talking points and allowing the pandemic to be used as an excuse to codify Title 42 through the appropriations process, to mandate its continuation.

To help do this important work Side With Love (SWL), the UU Service Committee (UUSC), UU Rise and UUSJ are teaming up for the effort in solidarity with other faith advocates through the Interfaith Immigration Coalition (IIC) and Welcome With Dignity who are hosting a 2-week series of call-in days from July 18-31, 2022.

Will you join us on Tuesday, July 19th, the UU day to make calls?

  • We need you to ring your federal legislators. We ask you to join us in doing so!
  • To facilitate the work we offer the chance to make calls, in the community, with other UUs during a flash action
  • UU Action Hour: 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM on 7/19 – RSVP now!

UUSJ’s part is to host the action hour. SWL is preparing the call-to-click tool for our denomination, and UUSC is developing scripts and other materials. UU Rise is mobilizing out west.

You are urged to join a webinar in preparation co-hosted by IIC and UUSC:

Webinar: “Heal Not Harm – Restore Asylum Now!”

How do we end the deadly “Title 42” policy and restore access to asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border? Even months after the CDC tried to revoke it, the courts have kept it in place. Now there is a risk of Title 42 becoming permanent law if we don’t stop legislators from attaching it to essential funding bills and COVID relief.

Join this multi-faith event hosted by the Interfaith Immigration Coalition, Welcome With Dignity and UUSC to get critical updates on asylum access in the US, particularly on the status and impact on Title 42. We’ll then prepare to take action together for the “Heal Not Harm” weeks of action to demand an end to Title 42 and a restoration of life-affirming asylum policies. UUs will lead off with our call day on Tuesday, July 19.

Closed captions, as well as Spanish and Creole interpretation, will be available. A video will be sent to all registrants who are not able to attend day-of.
