According to The New York Times, “The 1619 Project” is a long-form journalism project developed by Nikole Hannah-Jones, writers from The New York Times, and The New York Times Magazine which “aims to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of the United States’ national narrative.” Although some have described it a “dramatic and necessary corrective to the fundamental lie of the American origin story,” others have dubbed it as “brainwashing,” “revisionist history,” and “propaganda masquerading as the truth.”

In the second webinar in our Speaking Truth series, we examine “The 1619 Project:”

  • What it is,
  • What it really says,
  • Its contributions to American history,
  • Where it falls short, and
  • How to talk about it to others.

All programs are free and open to the public. Registration is required and donations are appreciated.
