Siding with Love Is the Right Way for You

That’s when I take Alicia Garza’s advice about existential dread and despair: Do Something. Take a walk. Listen to music. Call a friend. Go to church. And of course, since she’s an organizer: get involved in changing the world as it is. (Check out her podcast Lady Don’t Take No where she shares great advice and wisdom every week.)

Are you looking for space to do deep & impactful organizing with awesome folks within our faith in the time that you have available?

The Volunteer Squads that I coordinate are the backbone of our Side with Love Action Center. Squad volunteers bring our campaigns to life with bite-sized commitments that make it possible for Unitarian Universalists and friends to take action and build community for a just, equitable, and multiracial democracy.

Are you ready to do what makes you come alive?

I often quote the 20th century Black preacher & Prophet the Rev. Dr. Howard Thurman:

“Don’t ask what the world needs.

Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.

Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

What is it that makes you come alive? What do you want to learn? How do you want to connect? Your answers to these questions will help us connect you to the right squad and the right size role for your the time and energy.

Our Side with Love Squads allow people to find different ways to support the work we do: you can help folks learn how to phone bank, manage the data, run the Zoom, do the spiritual grounding, and much more (Sneak a peek at our roles here). As teams, we help each other learn the different roles and figure out how to do them effectively.

If you long for more connection and impact within our faith towards the work of justice, I encourage you to come to the Squad Activation Huddle for the Side with Love Action Center.

Bring your love for this world and your desire to Do Something to our Side With Love Squads — we would love to welcome you in!

In faith and love,

Rev. Cathy Rion Starr
