UUSJ is the only organization entirely focused on raising the voice of Unitarian Universalism in the halls of power in the United States: Capitol Hill and the Executive Branch of the federal government.

  • We hold ourselves accountable to the principles of the Unitarian Universalist faith.
  • This requires us to attend not only to the interests and priorities of Unitarian Universalists and their organizations but to the interests and priorities of people and communities directly affected by the injustices our faith calls us to redress.

The UUSJ board is in transition to a governing board. It looks to form policies, practices, and directions which guide the staff or volunteers. The work of UUSJ is the responsibility of the executive director, other staff, and dedicated volunteers. This is a process that is unfolding.

The ideal candidates will …

  • Have a passion for social justice advocacy, engagement, education, and/or witnessing;
  • Have a desire to see policy change at the Federal level;
  • Reflect the racial, gender, age, and geographic diversity of Unitarian Universalism and impacted communities;
  • Believe strongly in UU values (although need not be a UU);
  • Understand the role of a Board member is in transition from a working posture to an oversight posture.
