Rev. Maj-Britt Johnson is UUCP’s “half time” minister. She leads services twice a month as well as periodic adult programs, meets with the Board of Trustees, provides pastoral care, and is an advisor and resource to teams and committees as needed. She can be reached at 201-568-5540 mailbox #1. Office hours are by appointment.

Maj-Britt came to UUCP on January 1st 2005 after two and a half years as a Spiritual Care and Bereavement Coordinator with a New Jersey hospice program. While employed by hospice she received certification as a Bereavement Facilitator from the American Academy of Bereavement. Prior to her hospice work Maj-Britt served two U.U. congregations. The first was the Unitarian Church of Norfolk Virginia which she served as senior minister for seven years. During her years in Norfolk Maj-Britt was a public voice on gay and lesbian issues and helped found a local coalition of religious and non religious groups (called Bearing Witness) to advance dialogue between the gay and straight communities. After leaving Norfolk she served for two years as interim minister at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood N.J., 2000-2002.

Maj-Britt graduated from Harvard Divinity School in 1992 with a Master of Divinity Degree. While at Harvard she served as an intern minister at the First Unitarian Society of Newton MA for, worked as a refugee advocate at the East Boston Ecumenical Community Council, and was a student Chaplain at Deaconness Hospital.

Maj-Britt attended St. Johns College in Santa Fe N.M. where she studied the Great Books, later transferring to Warren Wilson College where she received a B.A. in Cross Cultural Studies. While attending Warren Wilson College, she spent a year in a rural village in Kenya where she established a Village Polytechnic with classes in masonry, tailoring and carpentry.

In the ten years between graduation from college and entrance into her Masters in Divinity program she was a community organizer with several peace and justice organizations, a teacher of Adult Basic Education in the coves of southern Appalachia, a waitress, a struggling artist/writer, a manager in a publishing company, and a technical writer for a Public Works Department.

Maj-Britt has lived in three countries and twelve states but she is now happy to call the New York area home (again). She lives in Orange County N.Y. with her partner Michael and their two dogs Lucy and Rocky.

Many of her sermons are available on our website. Maj-Britt pronounces her name My Britt.
